A mix of 8- and 10-year-old bourbon barrels.

The whisky is composed of 8- or 10-year-old bourbon barrels. The 8-year-olds are standard 200-liter bourbon barrels, the oldest of their kind in our warehouse, while the 10-year-olds are smaller barrels containing our oldest Imperial heritage whisky.

After the long period in the barrel, the whisky has developed a fantastic intense aroma of tropical fruits, vanilla, baked apples, and cream caramel. The whisky is well-oiled, and the aftertaste lingers for a long time.

Our oldest whisky to date

When whisky is aged for an extended period in wooden barrels, the alcohol seeps into the pores of the wood. Here, it reacts with the wood's acids, forming the fruity and florally scenting esters that characterize bourbon barrel-aged whisky. It is these esters that one can truly experience in Thy Whisky No. 24 - 8 years.

Released on the 10th anniversary of our first release

Thy Whisky No. 24 - 8 år is released on the 10th anniversary of our very first release, Thy Whisky No. 1 - Kræn Klit was launched in 2014 in a packed Klitmøller Rescue house. Since then, there have been 23 whiskies in our numbered series. This 8 year old whisky seems to be a worthy conclusion.

Beautiful old bourbon barrels

We source our bourbon casks from Heaven Hill Distillery in Kentucky, US. They add a mild fruity note and vanilla sweetness to the whisky without dominating and taking the focus away from the grain and the beechwood smoked malt.

Making whisky in bourbon barrels is a work of patience, but the casks pay off in a beautiful fruity sweetness when the tannins from the oak are quietly oxidized.
